FOR YOUR INFORMATION: Free Skate at Ward Skatepark Starts Next Week

Once again, the City is offering free skateboarding at the Ward Skatepark in the month of August (and the beginning of September). It's nothing quite like a permenant outdoor skatepark, but the gesture is nice, and as the kids enter month two of summer vacation, it will also mean a new regular activity for them to do.
Here's the info courtesy of the City of Guelph:
Guelph, ON, July 28, 2015 – The City is offering Guelph’s youth a place to skateboard for free this summer.

Skateboarders and scooter riders will receive complimentary admission to the Ward Skatepark on weekdays in August and the first few days of September.

“We are excited to once again offer skateboarding to our young citizens who have expressed a desire to have a safe place to practice their sport this summer,” says Adam Rutherford, project manager of Youth Services at the City of Guelph.

Skatepark schedule:

August 4 to 7 – noon to 6 p.m.
August 10 to 14 – 5 to 9 p.m.
August 17 to 21 – 5 to 9 p.m.
August 24 to 28 – noon to 6 p.m.
August 31 to September 4 – noon to 6 p.m.

Skateboarders and riders who are under the age of 14, and who haven’t used the facility in the past, must have a parent sign a waiver before using the venue, located at 199 Victoria Road South.

The cost of offering this service is $5,000. Since 2010, when the Deerpath Park skateboard area closed, the City has rented space at the Ward Skatepark. Construction on a new community skatepark in Silvercreek Park is expected to start later this summer.
