New Year's Message from GCL

Happy New Year! Now let's talk about the election.

Just kidding. (Sort of.) As you undoubtedly know (and since you're reading this blog, I assume you do know), 2014 is a Municipal Election year. So the time is right to start a discussion of the important issues facing Guelph this year, and how we're going to promote greater voter engagement and get out the vote this fall. But where to begin? How about at the Annual General Meeting for the Guelph Civic League. The details for next week's meeting can be found in the open letter from the GCL below.
Open Letter: Can one passionate person make a difference?
Do you think Guelph is the kind of city where a passionate person can make a difference in the lives of their loved ones, friends or neighbours?
The new Guelph Civic League does, too.
We believe that Guelph is a special kind of place, where one person can play a part in making important change. But in order to be successful, you need to find like-minded and energized people to collaborate with.
The GCL is a non-partisan group of engaged citizens. We strive to be a platform to enable our members to improve our city in creative ways. We're interested in civic engagement, local democracy and a vibrant city
What does this have to do with you? Well, if you've ever wondered how to get involved with your city, the GCL may be a good way to get the ball rolling. Step one is for us to get to know each other a little and start the conversation.
We hope that you'll consider joining us at our next general meeting where we'll be meeting with current members and making connections with new folks, like you, who feel they have something to contribute to our city.
We're meeting on January 9th, 7pm, at 10 Carden St. There will be lots of friendly faces and interesting conversation.
For more information, please write info@guelphcivicleague.org or visit the Town Hall website at www.guelphcivicleague.org.
We hope to see you there!
