Guelph Film Buffs Are Invited to Doc-It

Hot Docs is one of the great film festivals in Canada, and it's completely dedicated to documentaries. A new monthly event intends to bring some of that unique film-going flavour to the Royal City as Doc-It! kicks off this week at the Bookshelf Cinema.
The event is the brainchild of Erin Faith Young, an Academy Award-nominated producer who was born and raised in Guelph. Recently resettling in Guelph with her husband, editor Andrew Schiller, the couple hopes that Doc-It! will "bring notable Canadian theatrical documentaries and their filmmakers to Guelph as a celebration of the art form and a special event dedicated to entertaining and informing the Guelph community." The series is being presented in co-operation with Ed Video Media Arts Centre.
The first Doc-It! event will take place this Thursday with a presentation of The Ghosts in our Machine by filmmaker Liz Marshall. "This stunning cinematic documentary was a Top 10 Audience favorite at Hot Docs International Documentary film festival this year. The film follows photographer and animal rights activist Jo-Anne McArthur who takes risks to show hidden truths behind the lives of individual animals living within the machine of our modern world. Liz will be speaking about documenting personal stories within controversial issues." Marshall will be available to for a Q&A after the screening and for a pre-screening party and “In Discussion with the Filmmaker” at the ebar at 6 pm. The screening starts at 7.
In August, the series will continue with The Manor, the documentary about Guelph's own gentlemen's club that opened Hot Docs at this year's festival. Direct Shawney Cohen will also be in attendance and will do a Q&A and meet with film fans in the ebar prior to the screening.
